At Colonial Animal Hospital and Colonial Gateway Veterinary Center, caring for pets has always been personal. What began as a neighborhood practice has grown into two connected animal hospitals, but our philosophy remains the same — relationships come first.
We take time to listen, answer questions, and help you feel confident in every decision about your pet’s care. Many families have trusted us through multiple pets and life stages, and we’re grateful to be part of those journeys.
Today, we continue serving Boynton Beach, Palm Beach County, and surrounding South Florida communities with the welcoming atmosphere and dependable medical care that built our reputation.
Behind every appointment is a team of veterinarians, technicians, and support staff who genuinely love what they do. Many of our team members have been with us for years, creating a familiar environment that helps pets relax and helps owners feel comfortable asking questions.
We know visiting the veterinarian can sometimes feel overwhelming. Our goal is to make each interaction — whether in person or on the phone — calm, clear, and supportive for both you and your pet.

Dr. Martin graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. After owning and selling one practice in Tennessee he moved to Boynton Beach in 1987. Colonial Animal Hospital was purchased in 2004 and Boynton-Hypoluxo Animal Clinic was purchased from Dr. Arthur Burton in 2008. That building was torn down and the new Colonial Gateway Veterinary Center was born in its place.
A recent study of Dr. Martin’s career estimated that he has helped over 150000 pets with health care issues from broken toenails to broken bones and virtually everything in between. Dr M has worked hard over the years to develop a “whole patient” approach to care of pets with the patient’s people being involved in the decision making process each step of the way. This has helped both practices develop a loyal following of clients who know their Veterinarian has the best interest of clients and their beloved pets at the cornerstone of these hospitals.
Dr. M lives in Western Lake Worth with his wife Lisa, son Trey and six dogs, three cats and eight chickens. The Martins also have four grown daughters who along with Trey and Lisa are the driving force in his life. A passion for the ocean is Dr. Martin’s main interest as a hobby outside of work that is usually enjoyed in the Bahamas. Every aspect of his life is lived in a way that would make his creator the focus of his life. This one fact is Rob Martins’ reason for conducting his professional life the way he has and any credit for success in life is given to God.
